BMW’s successor to the 1500 saloon was the 1800, it was launched in September of 1963, with a 1,773cc, 90 bhp engine. This car is the more interesting variation of the 1800 the 1800ti (Turismo Internazionale) which continued the manufacturer’s trend towards sporting motoring by delivering 110bhp, courtesy of twin side draft Solex carburettors and an increased compression ratio of 9.5:1, whilst the chassis featured stiffer suspension. This particular car has undergone all the work needed to further upgrade to Ti/SA ((Sonder Ausführung or Special edition) race car specification. Only 200 of the original cars were made by BMW for homologation purposes.
Engine and Gearbox
This 1800 Ti/SA sports a fantastic 1800 race engine built by Laranca Engineering, fully blueprinted, lightened and balanced with twin 48 Weber carburettors, a 316 degree Schrick camshaft, alloy inlet manifold and an FIA approved cast iron exhaust manifold. Power output is currently a healthy 150 bhp at the wheels with the softer camshaft. Gearbox is a Getrag 5 speed manual. Both a Schrick 336 full race cam and ZF dog-leg 1st close ratio race gearbox are available at an additional cost.
Brakes and Suspension
ATE calipers at the front, drums at the rear, both with cooling ducts already fabricated and fitted, brake bias adjuster. Race springs, Bilstein front, and rear dampers, front and rear adjustable anti-roll bars.
Wheels and Tyres
14” x 6” Minilites with Avon CR6ZZ tyres, all in very good condition.
Race wiring loom, battery cable and fuse box, new coil, facet electrical pump, new Stack tachometer, electronic ignition (easy conversion back to points), battery isolator and starter button.
Chassis and Body
Body and chassis in excellent overall condition. Extensively stiffened and lightened to full FIA specification. The car comes with Perspex windows and a full roll cage
Stripped out interior with no carpets. New Corbeau front seats with new Luke harnesses (4-point only) and a plumbed in fire extinguisher.
